Wonky Bliss Patchwork Quilt

Last week was a productive week quilt-wise.  I finished this one and another.  This time of year, the secret is having a quilt ready for binding on Saturday (aka college football day in our house).  That way I can multitask - cheer on my Horns while getting something accomplished at the same time :)
I used a fat quarter bundle of Bliss fabrics to make these wonky 9-patch blocks using this great tutorial from Oh Fransson!  The turquoise and red is really fun together.
Since I ended up with 18 total blocks, the 2 leftovers found a home on the quilt backing.
For the quilting, I did big free motion pebbles.  I've used this technique once before on my Butler Blue quilt, and it's relatively easy to do.  I'd say it's great if you can deal with "coloring outside the lines", but if you need precision, probably not the best technique for you :)
And I love the pretty red binding - this is what I was finishing off during the game.

Size: approx. 42" x 42"
Fabrics: Bliss by Bonnie & Camille for Moda
Pattern: Wonky 9-patch with sashing
Quilting: free motion big pebbles

  1. Beautiful! The square blocks and straight sashing really keep the wonkiness fun, and not overwhelmingly crazy. I love Bliss, and that binding is so perfect! I hear you on the quilting/football days! As a Nebraska Husker fan, I can't really endorse your choice of team, but can wholeheartedly agree that there's nothing better than settling in for a football game (or two, or three) with a sewing project. :)

  2. I love the pebble quilting and the perfect binding! It looks so soft, I just want to snuggle in it. Nice job!

  3. It's beautiful! the colors, the fmqing, I love the large pebbles, it creates all those little puffs. I've used it several times myself. nice job.

  4. Gorgeous! Great photos. I love that you've just used the two colours from the bliss line - very fresh.

  5. Lovely quilt! Great colors and layout. I also like the goal of having a quilt ready to go for Saturday football. Gotta keep those hands busy!

  6. Beautiful - I've actually been stalking your blog a little to see this one finished up. Those colors are just so awesome.

  7. This is beautiful. I love this line. My friend made me a quilt with this line and it's part of the reason why I started quilting.

  8. Hi Megan. This is my first visit to your blog and I love it!! Everything is so pretty and you photograph your quilts beautifully. I am so happy to have found you and will visit often :-)

  9. What a fun quilt! I may just have to try that one out. Love the red binding too!

  10. That quilt is really pretty! I like to work on projects that can be done on "game day" too!
